This 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium in Graphite Gray Metallic has 170k with a 104k transmission (which we installed) and a new head gasket job. Additionally, the transmission valve body is brand new. Our head gasket job consisted of new head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and resurfacing the heads before putting everything back together. Also gave it a new water pump, water pump gasket, and timing kit (consisting of the timing belt, tensioner, and three idler wheels).

Installed new brake rotors and pads all around. Also installed new front CV axles, oil level sensor, and windshield.

--> Gave it our signature 300+ mile test, and it passed.

17" alloy wheels with a set of 4 NEW Ironhead Reflex all-season tires. 10/32" tread depth, which is what new tires need to be.

Automatic transmission with optional manual mode and paddle shifters. Its double wishbone rear suspension makes for a smoother ride.

Fog lights. Luggage roof rails with pivoting fold-away crossbars.

Tilt and telescoping steering wheel. All-Weather Package includes heated front seats, plus defrosting outside mirrors & windshield wiper de-icers which turn on when rear defrost button is pushed. 10-way power driver seat including power lumbar support. Flip-down rear armrest and beverage holder. Rear seats recline as well as fold down for more cargo space.

Audio and cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. A USB port plus a 1/8" aux jack are in the center console.

There are 3 12v power outlets: in the front console, center console, and rear cargo area.

A trip computer is in the dashboard to monitor fuel economy: it got 32.4 mpg over 33 miles of highway driving, and 24 mpg combined over the last 549 miles.

Driver's seat height (adjustable) averages about 25" off the ground. Its ground clearance of 8.7 inches makes it not only easy to get in and out of, but along with the all-wheel drive, makes it a great vehicle for all seasons, including Midwest winters.

It represents Subaru's 4th generation of Outbacks, named by Motortrend as the "SUV of the Year." Its maximum cargo capacity, with 34.3/71.3 cubic feet (back seats up/down) rivals other classic SUVs on the market. And as for legroom and headroom, it's just plain roomy. Try it out.

For stability and safety, Subaru's Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system monitors the direction of the car compared to the intended steering direction. It compensates by braking individual wheels and/or altering fuel flow to the engine. Also, the Traction Control System (TCS) senses if any wheels are skidding and redirects power only to those wheels having the best traction.

This model was a Top Safety Pick for 2011 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It comes with six airbags (including side-curtain ones) as well as Brake Assist.

Imperfections: Washer fluid light is on even though container is full and both front and rear window washers work fine. TPMS light is on even though all tires are inflated to recommended pressure.

But of course this Outback has Subaru's signature All-Wheel Drive transmission!
