This 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited with 112k is a classy AWD ride in Ruby Red Pearl with an Ivory leather interior. Ready to go after our head gasket job, which consisted of new head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and resurfacing the heads before putting everything back together. Gave it a new timing kit (=new timing belt, tensioner, and 3 pulley wheels). Also replaced both rear wheel bearings.

Gave it new rear brake pads and rotors. Front pads are at about 50% thickness, which is 6mm (10mm is new for front pads).

--> Gave it our signature 300+ mile test, and it passed.

Automatic transmission with optional manual mode and paddle shifters. Its double wishbone rear suspension makes for a smoother ride.

17" alloy wheels with a set of 4 MICHELIN xTour All-Season tires which are close to new, at 9/32" tread. (10/32" is new, and 2/32" means Replace Now.)

Sunroof with slide and tilt functions. Fog lights. Luggage roof rails with pivoting fold-away crossbars.

Lots of amenities: Leather upholstery with wood grain interior trim. Back-up camera. All-Weather Package includes heated front seats, plus defrosting outside mirrors & windshield wiper de-icers which turn on when rear defrost button is pushed. Automatic climate control with dual mode. 10-way power driver seat including power lumbar support. Power passenger seat. Tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Flip-down rear armrest and beverage holder. Rear seats recline as well as fold down for more cargo space.

Harmon Kardon audio system with 9 speakers, including subwoofer. 6 CD changer. Bluetooth connectivity for your phone and wireless audio streaming. Steering wheel has audio, phone, and cruise control buttons. 1/8" aux jack is in the center console.

Three 12v power outlets: in the front console, center console, and rear cargo area.

A trip computer is in the dashboard to monitor fuel economy: it got 28.2 mpg over 407 miles (see photos). Not bad for an All-Wheel Drive vehicle!

Driver's seat height (adjustable) averages about 25" off the ground. Its ground clearance of 8.7 inches makes it not only easy to get in and out of, but along with the all-wheel drive, makes it a great vehicle for all seasons, including Midwest winters.

It represents Subaru's 4th generation of Outbacks, named by Motortrend as the "SUV of the Year." Its maximum cargo capacity, with 34.3/71.3 cubic feet (back seats up/down) rivals other classic SUVs on the market. And as for legroom and headroom, it's just plain roomy. Try it out.

For stability and safety, Subaru's Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system monitors the direction of the car compared to the intended steering direction. It compensates by braking individual wheels and/or altering fuel flow to the engine. Also, the Traction Control System (TCS) senses if any wheels are skidding and redirects power only to those wheels having the best traction.

This model was a Top Safety Pick for 2011 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It comes with six airbags (including side-curtain ones) as well as Brake Assist.

Imperfections: windshield ding (see above my finger in photos).

But of course this Outback has Subaru's signature All-Wheel Drive transmission!
