This 2012 Subaru Forester 2.5x Limited with 155k has a 2014 engine with only 97k miles. This AWD ride is ready to go after we replaced the engine as well as the radiator, vacuumed out and recharged the A/C system, and replaced the A/C condenser and relay. Gave it an alignment, a new O2 sensor, new mass air flow sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. Did our signature 300+ mile test, which it passed.

We're impressed that it got 27.3 mpg over 109.5 miles of highway driving (see photos of trip computer). Since that time, the average over almost 500 miles combining city driving (and idling) is 23.1 mpg. Still not bad for an All-Wheel Drive SUV.

We're also guessing you noticed the color. The classy look of Satin White Pearl is hard to ignore.

Brake pads are like new. Front pads have a thickness of 10mm (which is what new ones need to be), and rear pads are 7mm (8mm is new for rear pads).

Automatic transmission with sport shift. Double wishbone rear suspension makes for a smoother ride.

17" alloy wheels with a set of 4 Summit Ultramax all-season tires have plenty of tread remaining: 7/32" in front and 5-6/32" in back. (10/32" is new, and 2/32" means Replace Now.) We rotated the tires for you, putting the deeper tread in front.

Powered Sunroof with generous dimensions: 28" x 31.5".

Fog lights. Luggage roof rails with crossbars.

Lots of amenities: Leather upholstery. All-Weather Package includes heated front seats, plus outside mirror defoggers & windshield wiper de-icers which turn on when rear defrost button is pushed. Automatic climate control. 10-way power driver seat including power lumbar support. Tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Flip-down rear armrest and beverage holder. Rear seats recline as well as fold down for more cargo space. Exterior ground lighting.

HD Radio for radically improved sound--try it out; there's a difference over previous years. The 6-speaker stereo system has handsfree Bluetooth connectivity for your phone and wireless audio streaming. iPod capable. The steering wheel has audio, Bluetooth, phone, and cruise control buttons. A USB port plus a 1/8" aux jack are in the center console.

There are 3 12v power outlets: in the front console, center console, and rear cargo area.

Of all Subaru models, the Forester has a bit more headroom: it's an inch or two higher than the Outback. Driver's seat height (adjustable) averages about 25" off the ground. Its ground clearance of 8.7 inches makes it not only easy to get in and out of, but along with the all-wheel drive, makes it a great vehicle for all seasons, including Midwest winters.

Cargo volume with the rear seats up is 30.8 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded, it's 63.0 cf.

For stability and safety, Subaru's Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system monitors the direction of the car compared to the intended steering direction. It compensates by braking individual wheels and/or altering fuel flow to the engine. Also, the Traction Control System (TCS) senses if any wheels are skidding and redirects power only to those wheels having the best traction.

This model was a Top Safety Pick for 2012 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It comes with six airbags (including side-curtain ones) as well as Brake Assist.

Imperfections: tears in driver's seat upholstery, scratch inside the windshield on RH side; lower radiator support is bent. The engine may consume a quart of oil in 2000 miles, which isn't bad. But always keep an eye on the oil dipstick as a matter of course and good maintenance.

There's a possibility of a lean fuel-air mixture code (P1153) coming on which would trigger the check engine light (CEL). It hasn't come on for 140 miles. We've investigated this code and deem it not serious. (We've already replaced the O2 sensor and the mass air flow sensor.) But we'll throw in a code reader just in case the CEL does come on for you. Then you can read the code, determine if in fact it's just the P1153, and then you can erase it.

But of course this Forester has Subaru's signature All-Wheel Drive transmission!
